The MusicMedic Sax ProShop is taking a week off our normal schedule of Uberhauls, modifications and manufacturing necks to help you begin or build upon your journey into saxophone repair. Join us for this action-packed, intensive course of learning, improving, and doing.

MusicMedic is pleased to offer Basics Done Right in person learning courses for Saxophone, Flute, and Clarinet. These courses are designed to teach basic fundamental repair skills that the participant can build upon long after taking the course.  Participants need not have any prior repair experience.

Is a Basics Done Right Course for you?  Over the years, we have had participants from all over the world from different backgrounds and with different goals who benefitted from these courses.

-Musicians who want to understand their instrument’s mechanical functions and be able to do some repairs themselves.

-Band Instructors or Music Teachers who want to be able to troubleshoot and implement fixes to their students’ instruments.

-Parents or family members who have an interest in the mechanical workings of musical instruments and want to the help the musician in their lives

-Shop managers who want to cross train their technicians and introduce them into woodwinds or build upon their basic skills.

-Hobbyists who are curious about the band instrument repair trade and wants to dip their toes in the water before committing to repair school or an apprenticeship.

These intensive courses are action packed and hands on! You’ll work with an instructor in a small class size to gain a fundamental understanding of the instrument, the tools, and supplies used.  Participants will need an instrument and a basic set of tools and supplies (see Tool Block below to order or make sure you have the necessary tools in your tool kit already), as well as a device or notepad to take notes.

This course is ideal for beginners, hobbyists, musicians and repair students, and participants are not required to have any prior repair experience.

We constructed this course to introduce the fundamentals of saxophone repair. In this fast-paced experience, we will cover:

Intro to Tools, Anatomy of a Saxophone, Selecting and Applying Materials, Selecting and Replacing Pads, Replacing and Tensioning Springs, Key-fitting basics, Set-up basics, Cleaning, Assessing Saxophones for Repair, and Troubleshooting.

Along with the basic set of tools required participants should also have an alto or tenor saxophone of their choice to work on with the class during the course. All participants are eligible to purchase tools, repair kits, and instrument repair supplies at a reduced cost during the course.
