Damage in lead pipes near the mouthpiece receiver is a common occurrence- this handy tool set allows you to round out the mouthpiece receiver and adjust the leadpipe on nearly any brass instrument.

We worked with the fantastic instructors at the Minnesota State College Southeast Technical Red Wing campus Band Instrument Repair department to create the Red Wing Mouthpiece Taper Tool Set.  Damage in lead pipes near the mouthpiece receiver is a common occurrence, especially in French horns, trumpets, and mellophones, so this handy tool set allows you to round out the mouthpiece receiver on nearly any brass instrument. Damage further down the lead pipe causing it to be misaligned is also correctable using this tool. According to their exact specifications, there are mandrels available for trumpet, cornet, horn, small and large trombone, mellophone, and small and large tuba.

The mandrel tips are precision machined from stainless steel here at MusicMedic in Wilmington, NC.  When ordering the tool handle, you will receive the tool handle and carrying case. As needed, you can add tools to the case. The tips can also be ordered as a full set with a custom case and handle.  The comfortable knurled handle is machined from aluminum and hard anodized.  The mandrel tips can be installed in the handle or on the end of a dent rod for increased leverage and easy holding. In the sax ProShop, we’ve found that not only are these excellent for brass lead pipe repair, but they also work well for the ends of saxophone necks and even rounding out small tone holes on saxophones.

A portion of every sale of this tool goes to support the Band Instrument Repair Program at Red Wing! Learn more about their program Here!
