NeoBass Meetings (Post 2)
I’ve contacted the Bass sax manufacturers in China and I’ve set up meetings with them at Music China in Shanghai in October. This will be cool. I’m bringing tools to disassemble the instruments so I can see what needs to be fixed on these to get them working. I’ve been in this business long enough to know that it’s difficult to get a manufacturer to greatly improve their quality, so my plan is to see what I can get them not to do.
With this in mind, I worked through a few possible scenarios how we might get the saxophones and what it would cost us to set them up. Ideally, we’d put the posts and key work on the body as well. If the body tube and tone holes are correct, I believe that we can do most of the difficult work here in the US and produce a Bass Saxophone that is superior to most expensive Basses for a much lower cost. But all that assumes that the body tube and tone holes are correct. I’ll let you know after Shanghai!
