Dry Fitting Checklist

Saxophone:                                     Init:

  • Check that pad cups are clean and round with no dents
  • Check for special instructions on pad thickness
  • Check that pad type and resos are listed
  • Align the Springs
  • Fit dryfit remaining pads to cups
  • Assemble G#, Top Stack, and Bottom Stack, Side Bb & C, Alt. F#, Low C#
  • Check for gross timing errors
  • Check that springs are intact and correct as necessary
  • Dry Fit assembled keys
    • Engage springs
    • Level pad cups front to back
    • Adjust pad cup to hit evenly top & bottom
    • Disengage springs
    • Center pads over tone holes
    • Check and adjust timing
  • Adjust top and bottom stack touch pieces as necessary
  • Assemble Low Eb & Low C
    • Dry Fit pad cups over tone holes
    • Adjust touchpieces as necessary
  • Assemble Side Bb & C levers and High E
    • Dry Fit High E over tone hole
    • Check that both ends of lever contacts the body at the same time
    • Adjust touchpieces as necessary
  • Assemble and Dry Fit High F# key and lever
  • Assemble Low B & Bb, G# lever, and C# Lever
    • Dry Fit Low B and Bb pad cups over tone holes
    • Straighten out Tabs on G# lever
    • Adjust touchpieces to set height of LH table
    • Check and fix LH table timing
  • Install and dry fit palm keys one at a time
    • Check that palm keys are not rubbing on cradles.
  • Check that sliders are parallel at regulation points
    • Center all regulation arms under sliders
    • Align the height of the bis regulation arm with the top of G# pad cup, when both keys are closed
  • Check that all keys move freely without hitting or rubbing against one another.
    • File contact point as necessary
  • Disengage springs and check for friction
    • Straighten keys and rods as necessary
  • Remove keys
