Body & Dent Work Checklist    

Saxophone:                                     Init:

  • Remove crook and/or bow and bell if necessary
  • Remove/un-solder parts or guards that are in the way or otherwise need to be removed
  • Sight bore and straighten body tube
  • Round body tube
  • Remove dents from body, bow, bell, and neck
  • Sight bore and re-straighten body tube as necessary
  • Repair/level tone-holes
    • Check for out-of-round or damaged
    • Raise low spots and/or lower high spots, dependent on situation
  • Check bore and straighten/perform dentwork as necessary
  • Repair key guards and solder when/where necessary
  • Fit neck to reciever, leak tester should read 0, and neck screw tightens at a 1/4 turn
  • Align Posts
    • Straighten all hinge rods
    • Bottom stack
      • Diagnose and make plan according to bottom post position
      • Correct east-west alignment
      • Correct verticle alignment
      • Ensure bottom threaded post is aligned
    • Top Stack
      • Diagnose and make plan according to evidence observed
      • Correct east-west alignment
      • Correct verticle alignment
    • Align all other non-pivot screw post mechanisms
      • Align/aim "top" posts (north-south, east-west)
      • Align/aim threaded post (positive grab at end with no deflection)
    • Pivot screw posts and keys
      • Fit left hand pinky cluster pivot keys (Low C# lever first, especially if bottom post is connected to bottom post of bottom stack)
      • Fit and align all remaining pivot screw keys and posts
  • Check bore for straightness and possible post damage to body or tone holes
  • Re-check post alignment
  • Attach bow and bell if removed
  • Align side key forks to parallel and round inside surfaces if necessary
  • Drill adjustment screws for neoprene cord and threadlock cord
